Lesson today: Never leave in progress cooking unmonitored!

January 9, 2011 in Daily Shoutout

Ok….today I plan to have a nice dinner. Meat Soup Fantasy. And it is indeed now only in my fantasy :( Because I failed it.

I was boiling my meat to have a tender meat and yummy like usual but then I went to my room and continue to do my homework (added with facebook, chatting, singing, and blogging :D ) ….and I was totally forget that I was boiling my meat. :(

I heard something strange from the kitchen and I immediately remembered everything. When I came in the kitchen, it was big flame already. I panick..of course!!!!….then I started to try to put it off…..after some time it is off….fyuuuuhhh….Alhamdulillah….

but a lot of smoke filled my house :( . What a lot of carbon-dioxide!!! Can not breath!!!  *I am too much :D ….But it is indeed made me not be able to breath freely.

So this is my lesson today…

NEVER EVER LEAVE IN PROGRESS COOKING UNMONITORED

Otherwise:

  • you have to clean every mess you produced
  • you have to stay in cold (it is winter time) because you have to open every window and every door to let out the carbon-dioxide.
  • You have to stay hungry without food especially if it was your last stock which is happened to me. It was my last food :( Now I am hungry. I start to eat carrot, orange, cucumber, and lot of water. :( (
  • You have to dream about your fantasy food that you failed to eat :D

So remember it always! :D

Keep Smile! Brave yourself! Prove it!

Doctor: Divine or Devil ?

January 8, 2011 in Living Thought

Assalamualaikum,

I have just watched “Medium” which title is “Pain Killer“. In this serial, it is about a doctor who decides which patient should be kept to be taken care of, or which patient should be given death sentence.

Dr. Thomas Stanler, the doctor in this movie, is a doctor who handles all the patients who get cancer. He is a good doctor indeed. He saved a lot of lifes which of course with HIS permission. (But this is a Hollywood movie, no such thing about HIS permission :p).

But anyway, he seems like to judge the patient’s life or time to death by himself. So, when he knew that there is no longer hope for the patient to live then he will inject the “special” liquid to them without anyone permission. I mean with no hope here such as cancer with stage 4, no life insurance, not so rich person, can not pay the bill, etc. But actually, the patients themselves still have hope to live.

We all know that being doctor is a “gift”. They can help healing their disease or illness. But it does not mean that they have the right to decide which patients can continue to live and which patients should just die. The doctor may argue that this decision is for the patient’s own good. They may argue that it will end the patient’s pain from disease and help them not throwing a huge fortune just for trying to heal them and for the uncertain hope. How do they know? How do they know that it will help the patient? How do they know that it will end their pain? How do they know that there is no such hope?

The reasons might not because of money like the other many other practices of them but it still cost life that no one can ever buy it from anyone and anywhere. Are they divine or devil?

Wassalamualaikum

Joki Napi: What is it used for?

January 3, 2011 in Daily Shoutout

As usual habit, I always allocate some time to read my reader. And then it chops my eyes, Joki Napi Bojonegoro, Modus baru. This operation is about replacing the real prisoner to the fake one. So, the real prisoner pay some amount of money to whoever wants to replace him or her. In the real case in Bojonegoro, they found that the one in the prisoner is not the real one. Instead of Kasiem, it is Karni. And Karni has been in the prison for four days.

My question here is how come it happens? How come the prison officer let this things happen? Or just to be clear, how can they do it?

People is sentenced to be in prison because they have committed a crime. So, they can pay what they have done in the past. They can clear up their mind again or whatever it is. It is true that it does not mean every prisoner will be better after that. But at least that is the basic idea on prison. The criminals get basic knowledge how to survive and hopefully they can use the knowledge to earn some money after they finished their punishment.

But if someone just replace them, so what the use of it? How about if the criminals is a serial killer or rapist? The criminals is still wandering around outside. What are you going to do about it?

I do know the fundamental reason behind this action is always about money. You are rich then you can do anything what you want. Or you can argue that you need money so you just accept the offer? But please whoever you are, can you start thinking about other people safety? Can you deny your conscience? Or is it died already?

When I was a little kid, I did admire people who work in Law because they always try to do justice and find the truth. And I always keep a little hope that all of the “messiness” will vanish because there are still some people who keep their promise. But it seems the good one is only 1 from 100. And after reading the article, I doubt it even more.

History and Philosophy of Information Society: The transition from the gatherer to Agricultural society

January 3, 2011 in IT and Stuff

INTRODUCTION

Hunters and gatherers is a society which exists between 12000 – 10000 BC. They use one primary subsistence method which is experimenting with tools, hunting and travelling in search for edible animals and plants. Some of their characteristics are:

-       They are able to adapt to changes occur in environment, resources, and climate.

-       They hunt, gather, and use many resources in a small amount rather than exploit few resources in a huge amount.

-       They travel or move seasonally to find more available resources or food.

Agriculture is a practice to gain benefits from the environment, employing more effective and efficient manner of cultivation by using some tools or technology invented by human. It domesticates both the animals and plants. In the end, it forms the basis of new life which is called civilization.

Horticultural society Agricultural society
Simple Cultivate plants but no plows

Use only wood and stone tools

Cultivate plants and use plows

Use only copper and bronze

Advance Use metal tools and weapons Use iron tools and weapons.

There are some arguments between archaeologists for the reason behind the transition from hunters and gatherers to horti-agricultural.  Some say that the development of agriculture may have been triggered by the climate change which is also followed by the retreating of glaciers. Some others argue that it is because of population growth and changes in exploitation of local resources. Plant domestication is brought because human are constantly in contact and consume plant or even specific plant. Agriculture provides a stable and large quantity of produce, therefore human population is growing even more.

THE EVIDENCE

Legend:

a. Horti-agricultural economics took root in the Near Eastern (Fertile Crescent)

b. Goat domestication in Zagros Mountains

c. Sheep cluster

d. Cattle and pig as domesticated animals in Abu Hureyra

The first agricultural sites were found in the Near East. It is in the Nile Valley and Western Asia, in Anatolia (modern Turkey, shown above), in northern Syria, in valleys of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, and along the Jordan River Valley [2].

North China mainly plants Foxtail Millet and Rice. In 6000BCE there was a fowl as domesticated animal. It is believed that it is derived from the red jungle fowl of Southeast Asia [1].The other evidence of agricultural era is founded in Mesoamerica. They planted beans, chilies, and maize. The yielded carbonized specimen is founded in Tehuacan Valley between 5500 – 4500 BCE. It is appeared to be the earliest maize’s cobs [1].

AGRICULTURAL’S INFLUENCES

Advantages Disadvantages
Permanent society and environment is created because there is more reason to devote a considerable amount of effort to develop the residences. It has great dependency to weather condition which influences the growth of the particular crops planted.
The condition of having a permanent society and environment encourage the expansion of technology such as making clothes, working with the wood, etc. They have more capability and availability to invest their time in exploring such skill and knowledge. The agriculturalist has high dependency on harvest time. Therefore they have to gather the food for two or three consecutive harvest time
Agriculture requires intense and sustained physical effort

There are also some challenges in agricultural age they have to face and solve.

  1. They need to develop elaborate cultural practices for disposing of wastes and maintaining a hygienic environment such as their corpse, their food wastes of their livestock. Otherwise, it will cause a problem such as polluting one’s living place.  Compare with the foragers, they can stay clean and healthy just by moving seasonally or constantly.
  2. The increase of population growth. There is a tendency to have more children in agriculturalist family to help them in processing the farm. It is contrary with the forager’s mindset; they have to limit the number of children to be taken care of in order to make their life simpler.
  3. The emergence of infectious disease. It is mainly related to difficulty of maintaining hygienic living space and population growth.

The transition from domestication of plants and animals does not mean that it transform to fully completed agricultural societies. It introduces the whole new block of considerations, where each consideration might trigger new consequences. Below are the consequences that occurred in agricultural societies.

  1. The rise of social elite or social hierarchies which lead to different means of decision making and governmental organization.
  2. The emergence of wealth’s hierarchy, status, and power which is caused by the developing of specialization in social and economy
  3. The emergence of “private” and “public” life influences the way people perceived their existence.
  4. Lower life expectancy due to diseases.
  5. The high possibility of increasing number of erosion. Agriculture has a tendency to degrade the soil. There is a tendency to grow a certain plant on the same area of land for certain of time due to the demand. It can deplete even very rich soil.

SOCIETY COMPLEXITY in MESOAMERICA and MESOPOTAMIA

Agricultural societies require the human to take initiatives, consideration, and action to overcome those challenges, consequences, and the negative values of having the agricultural system. It made them to organize or build up such a system that can accommodate all of those issues which is in the end creating the hierarchically differentiated society. Therefore, we can say that the existence of agriculture triggers the emergence of social, economic, and political complexity. In the other word, it builds up a complex society. Let’s explore in detail the Mesoamerica and Mesopotamia using the table below.

Mesoamerica Mesopotamia
Social and

economic foundations

The emergence of hierarchy of site.

Irrigation system through the city to supply water for crop production. (Olmec)

Irrigation system through a system of dikes, dam, and canals which requires high level of organization, and effort.

Wool production was large and being used as a textile fabrics.

Agriculture is dominated by the cultivation of barley which is used as means of payment.

Settlement archaeology The houses were made out of wooden walls with clay and palm roof tops (Olmec) The houses were made from mud brick
Mortuary archaeology Rich tombs, isolated ceremonial sites Nature grave goods for lower strata
Art Elite architectures

Carving

Painting upon paper, building plaster, wood, stone, clay, stucco molds and terra cotta figurines.

Pottery and jewelry

History and poetry was recorded and set down to music.

Lyres, pipes, harps and drums is used to accompany song and dances.

Written documents Sophisticated system of writing (maya), found in inscriptions on stone and wood. Pictographic, later it was used to represent Sumerian phonetic and words.
Believe strongly featured animals and animal symbolism (shamanism) The emergence of god and goddess

Base on the definition given in the table above, we are able to conclude that the society structure does exist in both Mesopotamia and Mesoamerica. It includes also the emergence of social organization, leadership, managing organism, specialization division, and other things that need extra consideration, knowledge, and specialization.

Today Thorn – Tomorrow Flower

January 2, 2011 in Living Thought

There is 26 years old woman asking to Allah SWT. She asked for flower and butterfly. Instead gave her a flower, Allah SWT gave her a cactus.

Instead gave her a beautiful butterfly, Allah SWT gave her a caterpillar.

She thought that Allah SWT might not heard her requests. She thought that Allah SWT might have rejected her requests.

Though, she still took care both of them. Someday, she came to her garden to see the cactus and the caterpillar. But in her surprised, in the edge of cactus….there was a beautiful flower. Another surprised, the caterpillar metamorphosed into a beautiful butterfly.

Yes, today it might be a Thorn. Today it might be a caterpillar…but who knows for tomorrow….tomorrow, it might be a beautiful flower, tomorrow it might be a beautiful butterfly.

Allah SWT always fulfilled our requests which are good for us. But Allah SWT gave it in different way that we expected. Allah SWT loves us. Therefore Allah SWT does not fulfill our requests directly. Instead, Allah SWT would like to show us the path to pick up our requests.

Effort and Balloon

January 2, 2011 in Living Thought

Effort en balloon?

Wait a minute, is there any relation between both of them?

effort to blow up a balloon?

effort to get a balloon?

effort for what balloon?

Yeah pretty much like that, effort to blow up a balloon.

ok! en then?

So, when I went back to Indonesia for vacation…I paid a visit to my kindergarten, Creative Kindergarten (promotion mode on :D ).

At that time they had a competition to blow up a balloon…after that they should release our ballon, and if the ballon can reach the final line….then they won….

At first, I thought it was only a game for fun. But after that I realized that the teacher then gathered them in the middle of the classroom. The teacher then told them a meaning behind the game which I even never realized that there is a story behind it.

Do u know how balloon fly? We never sure about its direction. It might go straight to the front, or maybe go backward, or maybe go everywhere….If it could not reach the front line….then we should blow it once again…and try to release it again.

it is also the same as us. The blowing phase is called as our effort. the release one is called as delivering the effort…and accept the result…whatever it is. We have already done our best…but still we never able to predict the result. it might be good…or bad… who knows. What we can do is we should stay motivate ourself to do it again and again if we fail to reach our goal. never ever desperate with the failure.

I hope this story can motivate ourselves to give the best effort we can. And after that just accept the result, bad or good. And just say it out loud: Keep smile! I love my life!

May 23, 2010 in Craft project

I woke up in the sunday morning (really-really morning, about 5 am) and adter that I could not sleep anymore. I dont know what should I do, so I just looked into my “need-to-do-project”  paper….

So, just to kill my boredom…I took this tutorial (Mrs Priss blog, I really like this blog :) Thanks!).

Bookmark – distressed jeans

May 22, 2010 in sewing project

This is my first post about my project.

I tried to make a bookmark like in the 7 layer studio and in the busy lizzie.

And then I ended up with a bookmark – distressed jeans like this

I finished it within 15 minutes :P and I am so proud of it.

bookmark - distressed jeans

So, I found my jeans fabric that I cut from my jeans because it was too long.  After that I just followed the tutorial that I have given above (I mean, the urls).

I did not measure my fabric, how long it should be, how wide it should be. I just follow my hand :D

Yes, it is indeed a bit imbalance. But hey, imbalance is part of art, right? *I just want to find an excuse :D

But anyway, I like the way it turn out. The jeans fabric give us a not so feminien but the love accessories with its color give its soft look.

Happy trying!
